Website Marketing Road Map
You know that your business needs to promote
your website in order for you to get traffic (visitors) to
come to it, but where do you start? There are so many
ways you can promote your site, what is the best way to do
it? We get asked these questions all of the time, so
we have put together the following Road Map to help you on
your way to building your Internet presence.
When you meet with a SiteNexus consultant, we
will help you develop a comprehensive website marketing strategy
based on your individual business needs, but this general
outline should help you get started.
Short Range Strategies (1–4 weeks):
- Off-line Promotion - Besides the services
that we provide on this site, you can also help increase
traffic to your site with off-line promotion of your web
site business. This includes marketing and promoting
in such traditional manners as networking, print advertising,
media, event sponsorship, and merchandising.
- Basic
Site Optimization - One of the first things you should
do to help promote your site is attempt to optimize your
website for search engines and spiders. This is accomplished
by making sure your META tags are narrowly defined for your
site, your robots.txt file is in order and the structure
of your pages meet the various requirements of search engines
and spiders.
- Search
Engine Submission – 85% of all web site traffic
comes from the use of search engines. If your site is not
listed with the major search engines, you will never be
seen. The first step in any Internet marketing strategy
should be getting your site submitted to all major search
engines.
- Paid Placement
– Paid Placement consists of paying for search engines
to link to your site from a keyword or phrase that you choose.
Paid listings are often listed in high profile areas
of most major search engines. Because they can appear
in such a short period of time (in just days as opposed
to normal submission which may take weeks or months), this
is an excellent way to begin driving qualified traffic to
your web site almost immediately.
Mid-Range Strategies (1-3 months):
- Viral
Marketing – This consists of Affiliate Programs,
Co-branding, and Link Exchange strategies.
- Affiliate
Programs – These programs create powerful alliances
between an online merchant's web site and various "affiliate"
web sites. These "affiliate" websites tend to
provide information, entertainment, and content services
to their customers. The online merchants sell products,
goods and services online. The Affiliate Program enables
affiliates to leverage their traffic and customer base in
order to profit from e-commerce while merchants benefit
from increased exposure and sales.
- Co-branding
– A very popular way to partner with another company
that markets to a similar audience as you. Contact other
sites who could benefit from providing your services to
their customer base.
- Link
Exchange - Quality links to your site are an important
part of most search engine algorithms. Identify other sites
in the same industry, and approach them concerning a link
exchange that would benefit both parties.
- E-mail Campaigns – These are very effective
in driving traffic to and creating sales for your website
if you create appealing content and target the right markets.
Long-Range Strategies (3-6 months):
- Advanced
Site Optimization – This involves optimizing your
web pages to maximize traffic and to meet algorithm requirements
of all of the major search engines. There are various techniques
available to make sure that each search engine sees your
site the way you want to be seen. These techniques ensure
a tremendous improvement in your search engine rankings.
Other Strategies
This list is by no means complete. There are
many strategies available and new ones created every day.
